Four eight, choreographed and performd by Jukka Korpi, is a result of a very long-term solo dance project where the choreography is based on 480 different pictures collected from newspapers in 10 different countries over a period of 10 years. In the performance all the pictures are translated into movement and choreography.
The pictures represents several different characters and situations, such as politicians, athletes, commersials, culture, art, entertainment, but also from war, criminality and erotics. In a way the choreography is some kind of a metamorfoic journey where the character constantly and rapidly transforms himself from one character to another, maybe trying to reach the last one, so that he can be totally free from all these transformations. The choreography pictures also all that variation and all the contrasts happening in our world at the same time.
Number 48 is constant in the work, but the choice of this quite neutral title is also based on a need to not give a lot of expectations and associations in advance, but let the dance speak for itself.
